![]() After their incredible album Alaska from almost exactly a year ago, they bust out Colors. This band just continues to blow me away. If you're going to buy only one band this year, make it Betweent the Buried and Me. The new one rocks hard, with tons of styles thrown in. Taking you on an incredible musical journey. Their new album Colors isn't due out until September 18, 2007, but I was lucky enough to hear an advanced copy. They sound like they've grown musically. I even heard some organ this time around! Crunchy parts as well as some very melodic, mellow, jazzy and uplifting stuff thrown in. I will definately be buying Between The Buried and Me's new one when it comes out on the 18th. Here's the tracklist:

My friend recently turned me on to a cool band…Between the Buried and Me. The CD is called Alaska. Do yourself a favor and check it out.
» I was blown away at first listen, which is really hard to do nowadays. I have not been this excited about a band since first hearing Dillinger Escape Plan, Mars Volta or Mr. Bungle. Between the Buried and Me are all over the board stylistically. They go from cookie monster death metal to dreamy sounding rock. The guy can actually sing. The riffs are not the usual metal riffs either. Very refreshing. The tempo is sometimes mindboggling. It almost sounds a bit like jazz metal to me. Almost as if it’s being improvised. I’ve only listened to the disc a few times, but I already love it. If you like your metal aggresssive at all, do yourself a favor and check out Between the Buried and Me’s Alaska disc. read more »

I was thinking to myself, if I had to go away to a desert island and could only bring 10 CDs, what would they be? Here’s my list today, this could change by tomorrow: read more »

The first time I heard Magnetic Fields I immediately thought to myself “this is a little too gay for me.” But after a few listens, I really started liking this record. After a few more listens, I loved this record. Now I realize how vital this record is, I feel lucky to have discovered it. The Magnetic Fields are lead by singer Stephin Merritt. Stephin writes dark, humorous and morose lyrics, with really great hooks. Morrissey might’ve been an influence? Stephin Merritt also has numerous other side projects such as Future Bible Heroes, Gothic Archies and The 6ths. read more »

Carnivore is one of those bands that most people have never heard of. Carnivore was a thrash metal band from the 80’s. They’ve also been known as a crossover or metalcore band. Who included elements of metal and punk into their style. Singer Peter Steele went on to form Type O Negative. Carnivore, in my opinion, were way cooler than Type O Negative. They had a bit of cheese factor on their first record. The outfits were pretty funny. read more »
