For those of you who are complete Guitar Hero freaks...and there are lots of em, Red Octane is releasing Guitar Hero Encore, which will feature songs from the 80's. I don't know how "final" this list is, but I have the song list:

  • "Metal Health (Bang Your Head)" - Quiet Riot
  • "We Got the Beat" - The Go-Go's
  • "I Ran (So Far Away)" - A Flock of Seagulls
  • "Balls to the Wall" - Accept
  • "18 and Life" - Skid Row
  • "No One Like You" - Scorpions
  • "Shakin'" - Eddie Money
  • "Heat of the Moment" - Asia
  • "Radar Love" - White Lion
  • "Because, It's Midnite" - Limozeen
  • "Holy Diver" - Dio
  • "Turning Japanese" - The Vapors
  • "Hold on Loosely" - .38 Special
  • "The Warrior" - Scandal
  • "I Wanna Rock" - Twisted Sister
  • "What I Like About You" - The Romantics
  • "Synchronicity II" - The Police
  • "Ballroom Blitz" - Krokus
  • "Only a Lad" - Oingo Boingo
  • "Round and Round" - Ratt
  • "Nothin' But a Good Time" - Poison
  • "Lonely is the Night" - Billy Squier
  • "Bathroom Wall" - Faster Pussycat
  • "Los Angeles" - X
  • "Wrathchild" - Iron Maiden
  • "Electric Eye" - Judas Priest
  • "Police Truck" - Dead Kennedys
  • "Seventeen" - Winger
  • "Caught in a Mosh" - Anthrax
  • "Play With Me" - Extreme

To me, this list is very dissapointing. I will have a series of posts explaining why later. But in a nutshel, way too many posers. The 80's had so much great punk and metal, I feel like the genre is poorly represented here.  read more »

If you like to rock, and you like video games you need to check out Guitar Hero II. This is the funnest game I've played in a long time. I play guitar, so the game seems pretty natural to me. But my 11 year old, picked it up very quickly. I think it's a great idea. Teaches you about rhythm, songs, classic bands, etc. as well as being a blast to play.

Guitar Hero II comes with a guitar. It retails for around $80. Kind of expensive for just one game, but it's way worth it. I ended up buying a second guitar so we can play head to head.

It's kind of like Dance Dance Revolution except you use your fingers to fret each note and pick the string with your other hand. I've already made it through the easy and medium levels. I'm on the hard level which has proved to be extremely challenging. I checked out a few songs on the Expert level and it seemed really, really hard.  read more »
