Voivod is one of the most creative and intense bands to ever play metal. Killing Technology, Dimension Hatross and Nothingface were all complete masterpieces. Last year, Denis “Piggy” D’Amour died from colon cancer. Which is very sad. He was a very talented and creative guitarist. Voivod drummer Michael “Away” Langevin received a call one day from Denis D’Amour from the hospital. Denis said, “come to the hospital, I need to tell you something.” Langevin went to visit D’amour and was told he only had days to live. D’Amour also told Langevin that he had four albums’ worth of lead, rhythm and solo guitar tracks on his laptop. D’Amour slipped into a coma a day or two later. The rest of the band, including new bass player, Metalica’s very own Jason Newsted, recorded parts along with Piggy’s guitar parts and completed the album. The new 10 track disc will be released in the spring. Voivod plan to return to the studio in the fall to record another 13 tracks for an album that should be ready sometime in 2007. I for one, am looking forward to this new Voivod material.
